Look, I know it’s silly. That’s why I’m coming to you, my wonderful online friends rather than writing a letter to the Powers That Be at wordpress. I know I’m just being overly sensitive because of the word choice and no one else probably even notices.
There’s this one section on the blog stats page. You know the page that shows how many visitors you’ve had, where they came from, where they went? It’s down there at the bottom, so I don’t see it every day, but it’s there. Lurking. Like something at the bottom of the lake, waiting to grab your unsuspecting foot as you swim by.
All it says is “Best Day Ever” and it shows how many visitors I had that day. Then, there’s a link to the post from that day. The problem is, for me anyway, that there is no no way in hell that was my Best Day Ever even if almost 2400 people came to read my blog (and by now I’m sure the regular readers can make a good guess without my linking to it. It was late January and we’ll just leave it at that, ok?). And unless I do something drastic to get lots and lots of hits again in one day, it’s always going to be the “Best Day Ever.” I’d probably be ok if it just said something else…”Most visits in one day” would work just fine. Like I said, it’s all in the word choice.
It’s also on the blog stats for Sweet Zoë. Exact same thing. “Best Day Ever” I don’t think so.
So here’s what I’m asking. Can you help me change the post that is displayed for that one stat on my two blogs? Please? Just help me make sure that January 24th, 2008 isn’t listed as my “Best Day Ever.” Pick a day next week, next month…any day and send people my way for that one day. I don’t care what day it is, whenever it works for all of you. It doesn’t even have to be to a certain post. Just so long as more than 2,349 people visit here and more than 1,784 people visit Sweet Zoë. It has to be all in one day though. It doesn’t have to be both blogs in one day but it might be easier.
I thought I could be bigger than it, that I could ignore it, but I can’t and I can’t fix it without your help. Tell me what you need from me…I can make fancy buttons for your blog. I can provide you with the appropriate html if you don’t know how to do that. I can make it a contest and offer to send the blogger who gets the most click-throughs some homemade cookies, a watercolor painting, a homemade quilt…you name it and I’ll bribe you with it. Please?
I’m not techie — but I promise to visit from every computer I have access to and tell all my friends. Just tell me when.
And you’re not petty. I totally get it.
I’ll try to help
We are going to do this, sweetie. Can we make the day next Thursday? It gives everyone one full week and it gives me a chance to put it on BlogHer. Let me get on this.
I can hit it like 10 times if that helps. We just need a quick reminder from Mel and then everyone can be on it.
I’m on it:

Can everyone spread the word? This gives us a week to organize the troops.
It’s not silly at all. I hope we can do it.
We’ll blow the socks of on this new “best day ever.”
Thursday it is. I’ll be there!
I too get this and hope I’m not too late. It’s still Thursday where I live.
Oh, and now that I look at Mel’s post again it says on May 29th so I’m not too late. Just blond in a previous life (no offense to anyone blond, really. I’m just a bit ditzy) I will be back with as many people as I can find too.
God, this is just so crappy. I’m so gonna come back when Mel says to, cuz we gotta move this for you. We gotta.
I’m going to do it, because that is definitly not your best day ever.
This totally made me tear up. What terrible choice of words. Ugh. It seems like it might similarly affect others, not just you…I mean a lot of people get more hits when bad things happen.
You deserve for it to go away. I’m in. Mel is amazing. She’ll get it done.
I’m game. Thursday works.
Thursday it is. I’ll write the post now to go up that day.
Count me in. I’ll post something on my blog and blast an email, as will my husband.
Good lord, are they f’ing kidding with that wording? Yeesh.
That’s awful. I work at a school…lots of computers. I’ll hit them all.
I’m going to post about this on my site. I’ll be here Thursday!
We’ll make it go away….
x
Sorry I missed the new day. I just got around to reading Mel’s post from last week.
I know exactly what you mean. My best day ever, according to wordpress, is the day I found out my sister died. I see it every time I check my stats.
I hope everyone’s efforts paid off and you got a new “best day ever.”
