Sunday was Olivia Moonpie’s original due date. She’s now officially here 😉 ! We aren’t sure how long she is, but she weighs 7 pounds, 14 ounces.
Reflux. The stretch of time from Wednesday evening to Friday evening was horrific. Milk spewing out of mouth and nose, soaking Moonpies and Mommies and Daddies. Screaming. Back arching. Calming only when held tummy to chest. Taking turns lying on the couch at a 45 degree angle, trying to soothe a tiny body. Took tiny doses of Mylanta all weekend and saw the pediatrician yesterday. Gave him a demonstration by spitting up all over his arm and got a prescription. Hope it helps. Mommy can’t handle much of that when she’s so very tired.
This close to being able to breastfeed. Visited the lactation consultant for a feeding study. Got weighed before and after and learned that she took about half an ounce in 10 minutes. Mom and Dad thinks she does better when she’s at home and doesn’t have some strange woman shoving her face into a breast. If she can get to the point of taking all of her meals through nursing, she can stop getting the formula supplement added to her milk bottles. It’s oily and smells funny and Mommy would really like it if she didn’t have to have it anymore. But, we only have one can left and the pedi said she can stop when she finishes it and a can lasts 20 days. Practicing nursing at every meal now and doing a repeat study on Tuesday.
All is well. Everyone is more than a little sleepy and feeling a bit like they’re caught in a bad game of the SIMS with all of their needs meters in the red. But, there are plenty of snuggles to go around and the world becomes a very small, cozy, quiet place when it’s just you, a Moonpie, and a bottle.
Check back on Friday…Moonpie is entering a contest to try to win a $25,000 scholarship fund and will need your votes! I’ll post the link then. More coherent post when the brain cells are less fried.
