That was the slowest/fastest two weeks!
Miss Moonpie has grown 2 and a half inches and she’s regained her birth weight, lost it again, and then surpassed it. She’s opening her eyes and sometimes even manages to look in the direction of our voices. I promise to post more photos. We take tons but just have a hard time finding the time and energy to get them off the camera and on the ‘net. I’ll be so glad when she can start getting breast milk again on Sunday. I know she misses that full tummy feeling. Can’t really blame her. I felt the same way just a few weeks ago. It’s all well and good to not feel hungry while you are on IV nutrition, but there’s no replacing that sensation of fullness.
First post-partum check today. The OB’s opinion is that it is either a really bad heat rash or some sort of allergic reaction. Either way, she has no worries that it might be contagious so I’m free to snuggle with Olivia Moonpie again. If it doesn’t start to go away or spreads to other areas I should see a dermatologist, but she did tell me that post-partum rashes aren’t uncommon and can be “odd.” She also thinks my pumping results sound perfectly fine and is happy as long as I continue to see my steady, daily increase.
The neonatologist reduced the pressure on her canula to .5 liters. She’s had a few minor Apnea/Bradycardia events in the past couple of days but she has pulled herself out of them either all on her own or with just a little help in the form of being wiggled. The ones that we’ve seen appear to be the result of condensation in the canula going up her nose. I think she just doesn’t know how to handle suddenly inhaling water and holds her breath rather than forgetting to breathe altogether. If she continues to do well, she may actually be breathing unassisted by the weekend!
And now, the pump calls for the final round of the night. Then, I get to indulge in four straight hours of sleep before I have to do it all over again. It’s a good thing she’s so darn cute. 😉
