My new stove is here!
I wish I had a picture of the old one, so you could understand why this is such good news. It was cheap, cheap, cheap. When we built the house we had to make choices between things like better insulation and better stoves. Our intention was to eventually replace the stove with a better model, but there always seemd to be other things to tackle first. About a year and a half ago, the coils on the burners all separated from the pieces that attach underneath them and hold them down on the stove. So, I bought replacement elements. When they say on the package that they fit GE, Amana, Whirlpool, etc. they mean they sort of fit. In my case, they fit but they weren’t level, so if I was sauteeing, all of the oil would run to one edge of the pan. One burner I couldn’t use at all because I had to stand there and hold the pot on it so it wouldn’t slide off. When another burner just quit working two weeks ago, I threw in the towel and started shopping for a stove. Then I lost my job. But it’s holiday season and I am NOT cooking two holiday meals on two crooked burners. Hey, bonus! The big blue and yellow electronics store has stoves on sale. Crap! That means that NONE of the ones I can afford are left in stock. Except one model. That one, up there.
As they carted the old, ugly, broken beast out of my house at 7 this morning, Shannon suggested we re-enact the printer bashing scene from Office Space. That probably would have been fun.
I think I’m gonna bake a cake just because now I have an oven with a window, so I can see it without opening the door!
