What a lovely quilt, I love how the red and white contrast to make a very jaunty quilt. I am only just learning how to do the patchwork for my very first quilt and this one puzzles me because I can’t see the blocks that you put together. Did you just put all the pieces together or…? You see, I am doing a simple Ohio Star pattern quilt which means that I can put together several blocks and then use to make up the quilt, but I am quite sure that you know all that already!!
Each block was made up of rows of one white square sewn with red squares or red strips to make a block with a white diagonal stripe. Then I put the blocks into the larger x pattern. I can’t remember the name of the pattern at the moment, but I’ll find it for you. It’s a pretty simple, traditional pattern.
Never fear, Kristin. I machine quilt these days. Many, many years ago when I had tons o’ free time (and I was afraid of using a sewing machine…I just knew I’d manage to sew my fingers together somehow) I did all of my sewing…clothes, dolls, quilts, etc by hand. That was also before any of us had ever heard of the internet or carpal tunnel syndrome. I do all of it on the machine. Sometimes I do the finishing of the binding by hand, but that’s pretty rare. I prefer to spend the extra time picking the patterns and fabric and playing with the arrangement, rather than back stitching. 🙂
