Sorry to be so quiet. I’m having one of those “nothing to say” phases following last week’s emotional overload. I’m also preparing for a couple rounds of much anticipated and very welcome company starting today and going through to Monday, so my brain has been taken over by list making. I’m not a terribly organized person most of the time, but tell me I’m going on vacation or that someone is coming to visit and watch out! Before you’ve finished telling me the flight times, I’ll have a list broken down by day and, sometimes, hour, of exactly what I need to do in the four or five days leading up to zero hour.
My list for this week*, for example:
Clean K’s bedroom/bathroom
Shannon – start taxes
Shannon-taxes, give cat bath
Pick up house
clean ceiling fans
scrub guest bathroom
go to lowes/home depot – annuals, houseplants
prep chicken and veggies for crock pot
AM – start crock pot for dinner
PM – grocery store
Finish Chicken and dumplings
Make salad and tea
unload and reload dishwasher
spend evening with company
soak dried black beans
strip guest bed and put sheets in washing machine
start brazilian black bean soup in crock pot
put sheets in dryer
wipe down guest bathroom
go to airport to get new “guest” (it’s my mom)
strip guest bed, wash sheets
wipe down bathroom
start either marinara sauce or Chicken with 40 cloves of garlic in crock pot (haven’t decided which to make yet)
spend rest of day shopping with mom
take mom to airport
spend evening with same guest from Wednesday
Surprisingly, I’ve managed to stay on task and have marked off everything from the list on schedule. The only thing that didn’t get done was cleaning the master bathroom, so I’m feeling pretty good about that. Oh, and the backyard is a total disaster, but the front yard is mowed. No annuals planted…lowes was mostly out…then it rained. I did get some lovely houseplants though. And yes, that is two chiropractic appointments in two days. Two weeks of bedrest, recovery, and extreme stress did a serious number on my back. My left shoulder was a couple of inches higher than my right. I was working on a lovely Quasimodo look and Shannon informed me that I was to go to the chiropractor as many times as it took to get it fixed. So, Monday was a regular adjustment and yesterday was a deep tissue therapeutic massage. Yeah, that’s not as nice as it sounds. Spa massages are one thing. It’s another to have someone put their elbow into a muscle that’s spasmed into a tight knot and lean all of their weight on it. Today features ice packs, tension headaches, all the water I can possibly stand, and tylenol. But, on the plus side, my left shoulder is now within half an inch of being level with the right. As long as I can keep relaxing it back down when it approaches my ear, I’ll be fine.
The mailbox has remained safe, but Shannon is still on mail retrieval duty for a few more weeks just to be sure. No word from the doctor on the metabolic tests, but I didn’t expect to hear anything this week. I’ll probably call and pester him the first week of May if I don’t hear from him first.
That’s all I’ve got. Life is a bit routine around here for a little while. I can live with that, but it doesn’t make for very interesting posts, I’m afraid.
*And for the company arriving this week who may or may not read this list, you are not to, in any way, interpret this as my complaining about your arrivals. On the contrary, not only am I looking forward to visiting with you, but you gave me the much needed motivation to actually CLEAN the house…something that has been a bit overlooked in the past six months. Besides, I like having people to cook for. Now, if I could just figure out some motivation for tackling the garage….
**Well, damn. I mean, I’m glad the airlines are fixing the planes and all and yes, I’d much rather they cancel flights than put my loved-ones at risk, but I was looking forward to tonight!! Now I have to re-do my list AND hold my breath in hopes that flights tomorrow don’t get cancelled. A clean house is all well and good, but if none of my company makes it here, who is going to help eat all that food?
