we were transferred yesterday to a different hospital. This one has the facilities to deal with micro-preemies and long-term bed rest.
The ambulance ride over was fairly uneventful and blessedly quick. Just long enough for me to start thinking about what a bad idea it is for me to ride in the back of a delivery truck while lying flat on my back, but not long enough for me to actually get car sick.
The room is much smaller, the view out the window is of another rooftop, the channel selection on the tv is much improved , the food is actually edible and my diet is NOT made up of corn syrup, primarily. The staff has been wonderful, fussing at me for being too quiet and not needing anything.
Had a nice sonogram with the new peri who took over my case. I couldn’t see the screen, but S said everyone looked good. Dr. was pleased with the amount of fluid, noticed some dilation of the kidneys which is, in most likelihood due to the progesterone in my system (it can’t tell one smooth muscle for another) so we’ll watch that but he wasn’t too concerned. He reiterated the milestones we hope to reach and reassured us that making it a full week without any signs of labor is huge. Ozymandius weighed in at 1 lb. 6oz and Zeuxippe came in at 1lb. 3oz, I believe. I could have those reversed. He likes to stay head-down on my bladder, nice and quiet, while she is all over the place. Every time we try to listen to them on the doppler, she’ll let us hear a heartbeat or two, then she’ll take off and hide again. Her most recent trick has been to hide in a place where my pulse is really strong, so we can hear her heartbeat underneath mine. You know she’s there, but the doppler can’t measure her through my interference. Little troublemaker!
Last night, the night nurse came in to go over some things with us and one of the first questions she asked was, “Are you sure you had a rupture?” Apparently the doctor’s notes indicated that both babies fluid levels were within normal limits, not only wonderful news, but obviously not what you would expect to hear. The leaking is a little stronger today. Probably a combination of yesterday’s excitement, which had me on my feet a little more than I had been and someone’s head moving just enough to stop blocking my cervix. I’m taking it pretty easy today.
I’m still on the high calorie diet, but here they’ve switched me to the diabetic menu (I’m not, but with the insulin resistance AND the previous five days of getting my extra calories from desserts and foods loaded with high fructose corn syrup, they wanted to give me a few days to kind of even out) which means I’m actually getting vegetables again and more proteins than carbs. It also means that I’m expected to eat almost non-stop. Not quite as good at that part of this. I hate the constant feeling of fullness. At least the food here is as good as can be expected. Three meals in and and I haven’t spit out a mouthful and asked if they were trying to kill me. Honestly…I know people complain about hospital food, but this stuff was so bad, S had started checking the plate before letting me see or smell it because sometimes the odor or the appearance was so bad it would make me ill.
Going to take a nap now. I have a little bit of time before my next vitals check/sugar check/feeding. Thanks for all the comments!

I LOVE your names — you seem like kindred naming spirits.
Here’s my post on that: http://drama2bmama.blogspot.com/2007/10/vetoed-names.html. Your Ozz and our Odd would cause quite a stir, wouldn’t they?
So glad the days are ticking by.
I am so so so glad to hear that you made the trip without incident and that everything looks so good. I was worried since so much time had gone by without word from you.
Ozzy and Zeup, huh?
As much as the transfer was probably a bit unnerving it sounds like you are at a better hospital. Glad the diet is a bit better and that you are with nurses who are used to long term stays. Hope that all continues to stay put for a while yet.
I am glad you made it to the new hospital without any incident. Hang in there! You are in our family’s prayers. I hope you have many more uneventful and boring days laying on your side in the hospital to help get those babies strong and more developed. (Our b/g twins are 4 1/2 yo.)
days are passing and youre still there!!!
Ok the cool thing about moving is that the tv is better- hopefully you’ll be there for MANY MANY WEEKS (sounds miserable to say but you know what I mean) so you can enjoy your new selection of channels! Moving nay have been scary but you are in a place that can better handle your babies if they were born soon so that is a GOOD thing. Hang in there- i know exactly how tough it is. I’m laying here counting the hours that pass just like you- every day is huge for your babies so congratulations on making this far!!!!
So glad that overall you are doing well, and that the trip was uneventful. I hope that those babies continue to cook for a good long time. XO
When I went into triage to have my boy, the nurse asked me if I was sure my water broke or if I was just wetting myself. She actually asked me with a straight face too. I laughingly assured her I was pretty sure I hadn’t just sat in my chair and gone potty without noticing, and they used their little swabby thing to verify my story. I later had to ask a nurse if people actually were coming in thinking they had their water break but instead just let ‘er rip down there and couldn’t tell the difference…. You’d think you’d be able to tell…right?? Take care and I’m glad things are working out a bit better for you in your new pseudo home
Glad the food is better. I know how horrible hospital food is, and when they make you eat so much it REALLY matters that it is good!
When my water broke at 26 weeks, there was quite the controversy about whether it did or didn’t. The “swab” thingy did indicate some fluid, but at that time there was sufficient fluid around the baby and they couldn’t tell from the internal exam they did. The high risk doctor said I didn’t rupture while my OB thought I had. I knew it had…there is no mistaking it when you get an unexpected gush like that! They still put me on antibiotics, though, just in case. (Yes, it did rupture and I had the twins two weeks later.) I continued to leak until I delivered. Totally gross.
I am praying for a noneventful couple of weeks to come!
I just want to note how weird it is that there is another stacie who comments here. I see that “stacie” made the latest comment and I think “Wow, no one has had anything to say at all since I last commented?”
Another day is a good day. Thinking of you.
I am heartened to see you have been transferred to where they can look after your little ones if they come early from now on.
