So, after this morning’s consult, I’m scheduled to have my gallbladder removed Wednesday afternoon. I’m a little surprised at how quickly we’re doing it, but I understand and agree with the reasons. 1. We don’t want the twins to get any bigger, as that would make the operation more difficult and lead to a greater chance that it would have to be open surgery rather than laparascopic. 2. I’ve had three attacks already. I REALLY don’t want any more. 3. The longer we wait, the more opportunity for the stones to cause more serious problems, increasing the risk of emergency surgery.
Turns out, my surgeon is also pregnant with twins. She’s five weeks ahead of me. We spent a good 15 minutes swapping stories before getting into the consult. Her pregnancy means I didn’t have to ask a single question about any of my concerns about surgery while pregnant. She’d already anticipated every single one of them and had a detailed explanation ready for me. I felt a huge wash of relief just knowing that she inherently understood my fears and concerns without my ever having to voice them.
If all goes well, I’ll be back home Wednesday afternoon. Doped on pain meds, but home sans gallbladder.

Good luck!
